New Reality TV Show Proposed
It is amazing the success of Reality TV. Survivor, Youre fired, and the Contender have blown out all other television shows. They are realistic, interesting and fun to watch as people interact in high paced and high stress situations. Some believe it is because people can relate with them so well and in fact that maybe part of it. But whatever reason, it goes to show that reality TV is where it is at. Martha Stewart is planning a reality TV show, which is sure to make its mark among the other top rated reality TV sensations.
I propose a new reality TV Show. We will call it; This is Your Government. Two teams will compete and are assigned easy tasks like regulating a Lemonade Stand or monitoring a Non-Profit Carwash by a church youth group. The government worker rank and file along with the bureaucrats will team up to see who can best regulate the chosen activity for the week.
In true government style the team, which can create the most paperwork the quickest will receive points. But thats not all, the team which can invent a way to tax the activity the greatest, will also receive a large number of points. The team, which eventually causes the kids to go out of business fastest, will indeed be declared the winner. Each team will have a coffee pot, 60 reams of paper, ten computers and a large building to operate out of.
Wont that be a very realistic Reality TV Show indeed? Think about it.

The Satellite War Across the Border
If I am paying for my Satellite subscription monthly, how come, I am limited to where I can and cannot watch TV? Isn't that absurd? Well, apparently, there are some satellite providers out there who make that decision for us. Whether we like it or not. This means, we don't have a freedom of choice, as we are suppose. However, there are still people out there, thousand of them, who still get away by watching Satellite wherever, they please.
So, the question is this? Are they violating a law? And if they are, who made that law? According to the CRTC, this is the Canadian Standard of Communications, such practice is perfectly fine, since, they don't control the airways. On the contrary, if you were to ask, the biggest satellite provider in Canada, they mention, such practices are violating a Canadian law. So, who to believe? Especially, when there is another satellite provider competitor, who mentions that going across the border is perfectly fine.
Now, for those of you who live in the U.S.A, the same problem applies to you. If you don't think so, make a quick test. Phone your Satellite provider and tell them you are going to take your Satellite system to Canada or Mexico. Just pay attention what they are going to say to you. Same law applies to Americans. So, what force out there, is controlling the airways? Obviously, it is your country satellite provider. What are they scare about it? Well, one assumption is that, they want to keep the American market separate from the Canadian one. There is a believe that, if U.S. providers come to Canada, the Canadian companies, could lose a big chuck of their market. And, on the same token, the Americans are afraid of that so. Still, they forget that we, as consumers have the freedom to choose what, when and more important, WHERE, we want to watch. Otherwise, there is no democracy and freedom of choice. What do you think?

To watch satellite TV on PC or TV, there are quite a handful of methods to do so. It is important that we know our options since television is very much part of our life. In a recent study, statistics showed that more than 99% of our American homes own more than one television, with national average at around 2 TV sets per home. There are essentially 2 basic ways to watch satellite TV on our TV sets. You should be pretty familiar with Television Receive-Only (TVRO) as it was the pioneering satellite TV systems. These kind of do-it-yourself (DIY) satellite TV systems receive satellite TV feeds from FSS-type satellites, on C-band frequency. These systems are also called big ugly dish systems (BUDS) for its signature large satellite dish which are typically 3 to 6 feet in diameter. Before pay television and subscription-based Direct Broadcast Systems (DBS) services like Dish Network and DirecTV appeared, it was the only source of satellite TV. This way of watching satellite TV still exists in different parts of the world such as Australia, India and Europe but is generally for Ku-band DVB. In the US, more are ditching them to watch satellite TV using other methods. This is understandable since the TVRO system requires cumbersome satellite dish setup and is very limited in the number of stations available.
The most common method now is of course to watch satellite TV using Direct Broadcast Systems (DBS). Big names like DirecTV and Dish Network are two more popular DBS service providers in the US. In order for you to watch satellite TV, you need to subscribe for one of the monthly TV program packages. Normally, depending on the package, there are some variations in the types of programs you get to watch though you should be able to watch from several hundreds of satellite TV channels. The satellite dish did not die in this system; it just shrunk to about one and a half foot. One advantage about such a system over the TVRO was the stationary positioning of the satellite throughout the day. TVRO satellites need to be adjusted to receive different station feeds at various times of the day.
